Best-in-Show Awards: Arm TechCon 2019

Arm TechCon 2019 is showcasing how the industry's largest IP ecosystem is advancing into the age of pervasive, intelligent electronics serving everything from artificial intelligence and autonomous vehicles to the Internet of Things and cybersecurity.

Embedded Computing Design's Best in Show Awards at Arm TechCon 2019 highlight some of the most innovative solutions from the event, which are listed below.

2019 Arm TechCon Best-in-Show Award Recipients:

Achronix Speedster7t FPGAs

Speedster7t FPGAs deliver high performance for machine learning and high-bandwidth networking applications, and eliminate the bottlenecks associated with traditional FPGAs. Built on TSMC's 7 nm FinFET process technology, Speedster7t FPGAs feature a revolutionary new 20 Tbps 2D Network-on-Chip (NoC), which allows high-speed data movement across the FPGA. With 4 Tbps GDDR6 bandwidth, 72 lanes of 112 Gbps SerDes, and 400G Ethernet, the Speedster7t integrates the highest speed external interfaces available today.

Highlights:

  • Speedster7t devices are the first FPGAs with an embedded 2D NoC across the fabric, allowing for efficient data flows. They are also the first FPGAs to use GDDR6 memory interfaces.
  • Fast I/O interfaces allow for high-speed data ingress and egress.

Microchip Technology Trust Platform for Microchip's CryptoAuthentication Family

Microchip’s Trust Platform for its CryptoAuthentication family is the industry’s first pre-provisioned hardware-based IoT solution that provides secure key storage for low-, mid- and high-volume device deployments using the ATECC608A secure element. It consists of a three-tier offering, providing out-of-the-box pre-provisioned, pre-configured, or fully customizable secure elements, allowing developers to choose the platform best suited for their individual design. Credentials are generated inside each secure element’s boundary by leveraging Microchip’s Hardware Secure Modules (HSMs) that are installed in its factories. The devices also come with hardware and software development tools to make prototyping easy and fast track development.

Previously, manufacturers were only able to support configuring and provisioning for high-volume orders, ranging from 60,000 to 150,000 units. Microchip’s Trust Platform is the only solution in the industry that provides configuring and provisioning for a minimum order quantity as low as 10 to 100 units, also allowing developers to authenticate to any public or private cloud infrastructure. It's making hardware-based IoT security more accessible to the mass market, helping companies of all sizes easily and quickly implement secure authentication.

NXM Labs, Inc. NXM Autonomous Security

NXM Autonomous Security leverages the advanced security features of Arm-based chips to enable IoT devices to manage security and data privacy without human oversight. Using distributed ledger and agile crypto technology, the solution offers a distributed and decentralized trust stack that eliminates network failures often associated with a client-server architecture. The software ensures trustworthiness of devices and the data they produce, while providing unparalleled protection of private, confidential information. It conforms to all regulations, including California's new IoT security law.

NXM Autonomous Security is the world's first independent Arm PSA-Certified (Level 1) trust stack that delivers scalable, auditable security and trust for the IoT lifecycle. NXM's software takes advantage of Arm TrustZone for security, data integrity, and privacy without requiring any hardware changes to a PSA-certified device. NXM is now working with global leaders in communications, semiconductors, automotive, enterprise software and other key sectors to launch its platform.

NXP Semiconductors i.MX RT1170 Crossover MCU Family

The i.MX RT1170 crossover MCU marks a technology breakthrough in MCUs, running up to 1GHz while maintaining low-power efficiency. It is architected to deliver a record-setting performance, with a 6468 CoreMark score and 2974 DMIPS while executing from on-chip memory. The solution uses advanced 28 nm FD-SOI technology, making NXP the first company to build MCUs in this advanced technology node.

Highlights:
  • Dual-core architecture: Arm Cortex-M7 up to 1GHz, Cortex-M4 up to 400MHz
  • 2D vector graphics core
  • NXP's pixel processing pipeline (PxP) 2D graphics accelerator
  • EdgeLock 400A, NXP's advanced embedded security technology

This new MCU family is redefining the "edge" and MCU landscape, bringing unprecedented performance and high levels of integration to propel industrial, IoT, and automotive applications. For edge compute applications, the GHz Cortex-M7 core significantly enhances performance for ML; edge inference for voice, vision and gesture recognition; natural language understanding; data analytics; and digital signal processing (DSP) functions. The combination of GHz performance and a high density of on-chip memory speeds up face recognition inference time by up to 5x compared to today's fastest MCUs in the market, in addition to having processing bandwidth to improve accuracy and immunity against spoofing. The GHz performance allows for efficient execution of computationally demanding voice recognition, including audio pre-processing (echo cancellation, noise suppression, beamforming, and barge-in) for improved cognition.
