HORW, SWITZERLAND. Toradex has released Torizon, an open-source, Yocto Project-based Linux software platform that simplifies the development of embedded software. Torizon will be free with all Toradex Arm-based System on Modules (SoMs). A beta version is currently available on GitHub at https://github.com/toradex/toradex-torizon-manifest.

Torizon relies on a Debian container architecture with an optional Docker runtime, and includes an over-the-air (OTA) update client based on Aktualizr. The software also includes several security features, including provisions that help developers leveraged hardware-based security features more easily.

Torizon targets developers and organizations who have limited experience with Linux board support packages (BSPs), particularly those migrating from the Windows ecosystem. For Microsoft users, Toradex has developed a feature within the platform called the Torizon Microsoft Developer Environment, which integrates with Visual Studio to make Linux development and debugging more intuitive. .Net support is also available.
