Hardware Solutions Bringing AI to the Edge

Supermicro, a leading server and storage solution provider worldwide, recently launched an AIoT system designed to accelerate diverse Cloud workloads.
The convergence of AI and IoT, known as AIoT, is highlighting a significant change in intelligent computing and extending the opportunities that the Internet of Things has presented to modern computing. For hardware vendors, the biggest challenges being faced are how to include a powerful CPU into a compact system deployed on the Edge while expanding GPU performance for inference applications with no compromise on space.
Supermicro, a leading server and storage solution provider worldwide, recently launched an AIoT system designed not only to process data but to accelerate diverse Cloud workloads, perform inferences and reserve sufficient storage capacity for significant data saving or cache. The SYS-1019D-FHN13TP is an innovative platform featuring Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors and the ability to support dual 75W GPUs; the advanced system, mechanical and thermal design is based on Supermicro’s 25 years of expertise in manufacturing for complex environments.
This compact 1U system design is 15 inches deep with eight built-in 1Gb RJ45 ports, two 10Gb RJ45 ports and two 10Gb SFP+ ports in the front to simplify connections to wired networks at the Edge. Furthermore, the system includes dual antennas toward the rear of the enclosure to easily adapt to wireless environments and two hot-swappable 2.5” drive bays along with multiple M.2 slots on board to enable system integrators flexible storage options to optimize applications.
The new wave of Edge AI is treated as the powerhouse that will fuel and support the expansion of Cloud applications. As it continues to gain momentum and present more opportunities together with the acceleration of 5G, Supermicro is rapidly extending its product scope from Cloud in the datacenter to clients at the Edge.
