When you ship an embedded IoT product, regardless of the vertical, it’s a pretty safe bet that it’s going to need updates over its lifetime.
Performing those upgrades can be tricky in many instances, as the end devices can be in remote locations, they can have shaky connections, or they can be overwhelming in number, just to name a few of the difficulties.
The ability to perform over-the-air (OTA) updates removes many of the barriers associated with these updates.
In this presentation, you’ll learn about these challenges and what approaches can be taken to perform software updates. You get an understanding on what needs to be updated in embedded Linux systems, and the requirements checklist for OTA software updates.
Then we’ll get into Mender's approach to OTA updates and the core open source features of Mender. We’ll conclude with a demo of Mender’s web UI to deploy a payload OTA update.
The speaker is Drew Moseley, a team member for the Mender.io open source project to deploy OTA software updates to embedded Linux devices. Drew has spent his career in embedded software and developer tools and has focused on Embedded Linux and Yocto.
