Infineon Technologies has announced a new family of microcontrollers (MCUs) in the PSoC™ portfolio of Arm® Cortex®-based high performance, low-power, secured devices that addresses the next wave of Machine learning enabled IoT applications.

Infineon recently held its annual OktoberTech event, where it showcased the company’s vast array of technologies as well as those of its customers. Embedded Computing Design’s Rich Nass sat down with Infineon Americas President Maher Matta to discuss things like sustainability, how to deal with such a wide range of products, and the need for an event like OktoberTech.

The electrical/electronics (EE) architecture of mass market automobiles is evolving rapidly to meet requirements for seamless connectivity, upgradable software, network and vehicle wide security, and management of increasing complexity, all while reducing design cycle time and offsetting higher computing costs by easing system integration. It’s a big task list, and the key to success is movement from traditional distributed control networks to a zonal architecture based on Central Computer Systems.

Electromobility is the foundation for environmentally responsible and sustainable mobility. However, making electromobility successful requires not only an electrified car, but also the supporting ecosystem and charging infrastructure based on renewable energy, as well as carbon-neutral car manufacturing.

From the exterior, cars of today don’t look that much different from those manufactured a decade ago. However, if you peeled back the skin and looked inside, you’d see huge changes.

With the increased push to reduce the use of fossil fuels for a sustainable future, electric vehicles will experience unprecedented growth in the coming years.
